If you’re a hair growing girl of African origin, length retention is probably one of the things on your hair agenda. Especially if you’re a kinky curly. Every kink, every curl, every bend in the hair strand is a possible breaking point. Are you interested in experiencing less breakage and improving your length retention?
I’m going to outline the gist of the Challenge for you real quick.
How long is it?
3 months. August – October
What is the aim of the challenge?
To retain length with a focus on 3 areas– Exercise, Nutrition and Hair.
Why these other 2? Isn’t this about hair?
We cannot say this enough: a healthy body is foundation for healthy hair.
Okay. What do I have to do?
As a Participant in the challenge, you are required to:
- Drink at least 2 litres of water daily.
- Consume at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.
- Exercise 3 times a week, for at least 30 minutes.
- Write and stick to a hair regimen.
- Moisturise hair at least 2 times a week.
- Wear hair in a protective low manipulation style for at least 2 weeks and not more than 4 weeks at a time.
Participants are also encouraged to:
- Take a daily multivitamin.
- Send in a before and after picture of their hair length.
Accountability is important in these challenges. It’s inspiring to see how others are doing, and get the clarification and encouragement that you need.
Also, there will be a monthly giveaway and a grand prize at the end of the 3 Length Retention Challenge. *shakes shekere* #iKnowYouLoveFreeStuff!

In other news, my hair is in a really happy place! 😀 I’m still staying true to my commitment to the Castor Oil Challenge, and so far, so good! I’m seeing results and this has encouraged me to continue! Let me not say any more, I don’t want my hype to be premature. I’ll share my progress with you in pictures as soon as the Castor Oil challenge comes to a close at the end of August!
