Product Review: Nothing But Intense Healing Mask

nothing but

Hey guys!

AB here!! 🙂

After seeing quite a few reviews on the interwebs, I’d been itching to try products from the Sofn’ Free ‘Nothing But’ line. I stalked the website for weeks, so as part of my Christmas product haul, I decided to go with the deep conditioner, the Nothing But Intense Healing Mask.

First impressions:

2 thumbs up for presentation. I love the clear tub, I love the font and the colours on the labels.

I like the light citrus scent (I LOVE CITRUS) and the consistency of this product is just right. It’s like yogurt 🙂

Ingredients:

Water (Aqua), Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Oil, Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate, Fragrance (Parfum), Acetamide MEA, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Panthenol, Propylene Glycol, Sorbitol, Sodium Cocoyl Collagen Amino Acid, Cocoyl Sarcosine, Wheat Germ Acid, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Linolenic Acid, Linoleic Acid, Sulfur, Polysorbate 80, Oleth-10, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycansance, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, d-Limonene, Linalool, Citral.

Worth noting: NO petrolatum, mineral oil, sulfates, parabens, colorants, phthalates.

On the Nothing But website, they explain why every single ingredient is used in the formulation of their products. You could go see the explanation for this product here. I love this! Pretty apropos I think, that their tagline is “Honest Hair Care for Natural Hair” 🙂

My Experience:

What my hair is like- tightly coiled, super kinky 4C, low porosity, medium-high density hair.

How I Use:

The label says- apply to damp freshly shampooed hair. Use a wide-tooth comb to distribute evenly. Leave on for 5-20 minutes, depending upon desired conditioning. Rinse well.

I’ve tried this 20 minutes both with and without heat, and once, I left it in my hair for up to 2 hours. This can be dangerous, but nope, I didn’t suffer any scalp issues or anything as a result.

just one use left. sniff sniff! :(

just one use left. sniff sniff! 😦

The Verdict:

This is a great deep conditioner. It is strengthening, and brings moisture and softness to my strands! Like after using it and rinsing all of it out, I don’t have to moisturise with a leave-in. I can go on to seal with a butter or oil and style.

Towards curbing my growing PJism, I’ve pledged to stick to the things that work, and this works! I love that it doesn’t need a lot of time, or heat to work. I have one use left *sheds tear* and I’m looking to replace it. I know I’ve found a good thing in this deep conditioner, seriously, the other day, I found myself singing Sunny Nneji’s ‘Oruka’ to it O_o It’s definitely going to be one of my staples. Which brings me to a small problem.

Where to Get

I got this through my bestee Marilyn, 16 oz (454g) for $11 at Walgreens. If you’re a vendor of Nothing But products, or you know someone who is, please holler in the comments.

I saw a Nothing But poster at Enumex Cosmetics here in Calabar in January. It seems that it’s just for decoration though, because I’ve been going there from time to time, hoping to see Nothing But on the shelves but no, nothing.

I wouldn’t mind falling in love with a DC I could easily buy here, but till then, I’m definitely getting this again.

Love,

AB,

xx

  1. Hello, i’m an avid follower of your blog. For the first time i want to try a DIY conditioner, a mixture of just honey and olive oil. Want to know if i’m to use it before or after shampooing? And if after, what do i use in rinsing it off?

    • Hey Zaynab!
You can DC before or after you shampoo. (I prefer to DC after)
You can rinse off honey & olive oil with water. (I like warm water, but cold water is good too) The honey makes rinsing easy.

Thanks for reading the blog! 🙂

  5. It’s available on amazon and it’s quite affordable- it costs around £6-7. So, I’m planning to buy it. I’ve been looking for a good deep conditioner and this seems good. Thanks AB for reviewing it.
